  • The Story

The ride today was truly benign. I got rolling pretty late -- at
around 10.30am. Starting from around 6600 feet altitude, the road
dropped to around 6000 feet over the first 20 miles or so into a small
town called Valle where I stopped for a little lunch. From there, the
road tilted ever so slightly upward, climbing up to 7000 feet just
outside of Williams, where I am staying the night tonight.

A couple times leaving and re-entering the Kaibab National Forest, I
was reminded of some of the most successful accomplishments of the
U.S. Government -- namely National Parks, National Monuments and
National Forests. I certainly have had my share of them over the last
few hundreds of miles of the trip, and have enjoyed every bit of every
    one of them. Awesome.

Williams is a town of a couple thousand, which calls itself the
Gateway to the Grand Canyon. The depot of the famous Grand Canyon
Railroad is here, which takes passengers through the forests and over
the hills up to Grand Canyon Village... the list of famous people who
have enjoyed this train ride is actually quite impressive.

I checked into the hotel, showered, ate some mexican food and enjoyed
a margarita and will hit the sack early tonight with the intention of
    getting an early start tomorrow.

  • Tomorrow

I will continue my ride south toward Cave Creek, a Phoenix suburb
where I will spend about 5 days hanging out with friends. I have
about 190 miles to cover in 2 days. Wish me luck.
