  • The Story

No riding for me today. I woke this morning and felt both dehydrated
and ravenously hungry. After breakfast, I came back to my room and
crawled back into bed. I was definitely worked, but without knowing
why. The ride yesterday was on the longish side, but it wasn't
anything crazy... Oh well, the Marble Canyon lodge is located just a
half-mile up the road from the famous Navajo Bridge, so I decided to
just stay here for another night and do a little sight-seeing.

The Navajo Bridge was built in 1928 as the first bridge spanning the
Colorado River Gorge, connecting the Northern "Arizona Strip" with the
rest of Arizona. In 1995, a new wider bridge was built to accomodate
the wider present-day needs. The new bridge was designed and built as
a carbon copy of the old in an attempt to minimize the aesthetic
impact the new construction might have on the natural setting. The
old bridge remains open today as a pedestrian bridge and the site has
an accompanying "Interpretive Center", where I spent some time reading
    today.

Okay, a big meal in me tonight and early to bed. Tomorrow I ride.

  • Tomorrow

I will start my climb out of the Colorado River Valley and head to
Cameron, Arizona, for another 70 miles day with a lot of climbing.
