  • The Story

Okay, two uphill finishes on the last two day rides of riding really
suck. Not only does the day's ride finishi uphill, but the next day's
ride starts by going straight UP. haha. oh well.

Today's ride was 70 miles of quiet riding that included 4 climbs in
all. The first climb was straight out of Austin to the top of Austin
Pass. The first 3 miles climbed somewhere around 1000 feet... what a
warmup! Between the first and second pass was a shallow valley
through the Toiyabe Forest.... and to my suprise I saw that Nevada
    DOES have trees...

For the most part the day's ride was downhill, but the last 10-15
miles were into a stiff headwind. It was quite an effort to keep my
speed up to 10mph while going down a gradual descent... rough, but
hey you just take your time, settle in and spin... you will make it
    there eventually.

Today was my longest to date, but sitting here afterwards I have to
say I don't feel too terribly fatigued. I got an early start at
around 7.30am this morning and was able to avoid the afternoon
weather, with the exception of the last hour... I will aim to get out
on the road even earlier tomorrow.

Eureka, Nevada is a town of about 600 people -- yet another former
mining town that is now just hanging on for what little local economy
    still remains.

  • Tomorrow

77 more desolate miles and 4 mountain passes along HW50 lands me in
Ely, where I will plan on finishing tomorrow's ride.

  • Snapshots

a storms-a-brewin somewhere in central nevada. a storms-a-brewin somewhere in central nevada. the only shade for 70 miles between Austin and Eureka, Nevada.
